Don Gordo’s Launderland has a Clean Heart

On August 14th, Don Gordo’s Launderland held a fundraiser for the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mecca. The community was aware the launderland located on the corner of Requa and Salton in Indio was contributing all of the proceeds for the day to the church. Hundreds of individuals braved record heat to spend a few hours washing clothes.

Proprietors Robert Nunley and John Allavesen were very active in passing the word to solicit a crowd on the 14th and they succeeded. The Lady of Guadalupe Church in Mecca has been boarded up since the roof started to cave in a year ago. The 4000 parishners who attend Sunday Mass have been meeting in a tent on the front lawn of the church. These summer days have been a real test of faith. The church needs to save up $350,000 for the repairs. The first $10,000 contributed last year were exactly what was needed to erect the tent and give the faithful a place to worship.

Robert Nunley contributes generously to the community and was elated to be able to hand a check to Father Lucas for $10,000 for the construction fund.
