Cash for College

Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia hosts Cal Grant Workshop

Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia and the University of California Riverside’s Early Academic Outreach Program, will host a FREE “Cash for College” workshop at the Riverside County Workforce Development Building in Indio.

Funded by the State of California and administered by the California Student Aid Commission, Cal Grants are one of the smartest ways to get cash for college. Cal Grants are funds that don’t need to be paid back and are awarded to high school seniors and older who meet the eligibility, income and academic requirements. The money can be used to attend any California Community College, Cal State University, University of California, private college, or most career technical or vocational schools.

The Cash for College workshop will offer free, professional help to fill out the financial aid forms that are often daunting for first-time filers. All application forms must be submitted by the March 2nd deadline in order to qualify for financial aid.

“Economic barriers and overwhelming forms should not be a deterrent for our youth to attend college,” said Garcia. “What’s great about Cal Grants are you don’t have to pay them back; its free money.”
