“Can a Congressman Lie?”

Twenty years ago Americans were assaulted by hysterical allegations that Mexicans would steal American jobs, invade the U.S. through a super-NAFTA highway north from Texas so Mexicans could roll across the U.S. with trucks, tanks and mechanized infantry – or as Ross Perot would cry THE MEXICANS ARE COMING! THE MEXICANS ARE COMING!
Colorado Republican Congressman Tom Tancredo famous for the “Mental illness” he claimed that kept him from being drafted to become an Army company clerk at the end of the Vietnam War led the charge. His unsubstantiated attacks on Mexicans were more extreme than of Ross Perot and Pat Buchanan, if that was possible. He essentially lied throughout his brief career about Mexicans and those illegally present who are the very foundation of his state’s agricultural industry.
When he left Congress, his place as an anti-Mexican congressional leader was taken by California Republican Congressman Brian Bilbray who eventually was thrown out of office by the worst City Councilman in San Diego history.
Stepping in to fill the slot of the Congressman from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR, that used to pay Bilbray as a lobbyist) after Bilbray is Stephen King, Republican of Iowa who represents a district with substantial Hispanic numbers in Iowa.
Here are some of his widely quoted statements regarding Mexicans:
“I can tell you that in Mexico they are recruiting kids to be drug smugglers…Every night some come across the border smuggling drugs across the border. Increasingly the higher value drugs, heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine in some form or another, are being strapped to the body — sometimes of young girls, teenage girls. The media is replete with this”.
He offered no proof of this allegation and produced no articles from responsible journals, newspapers or official reports from the U.S. Border Patrol to document his statement.
Speaker of the House, Ohio Republican John Boehner called King’s comments “deeply offensive and wrong.”
“I want to be clear: There is no place in this debate for hateful or ignorant comments from elected officials…What he (King) said does not reflect the values of the American people or the Republican Party.”
King did not seem to get the message from either Boehner as he came back a few days later with more of the same.
Last week King told us that kids brought here illegally when they were children “aren’t all valedictorians, they weren’t all brought in by their parents.”
King: “For every one who’s a valedictorian, there’s another 100 out there who weigh 130 pounds — and they’ve got calves the size of cantaloupes because they’re hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert. Those people would be legalized with the same act (Senate bill 744).” By the way, that is totally untrue.
King says that until we can differentiate between the “innocent ones” and those who have been “undermining our culture and civilization and profiting from criminal acts,” no one should advocate for “amnesty.” Again, not true. “Criminal acts” disqualify people from legalization.
Boehner immediately issued another statement saying King was “wrong” and his language “hateful.” Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) called the King comments “inexcusable.”
Here is where he lied. He told Radio Iowa that night after being lambasted by Boehner and Cantor that the physical description he “essentially” used came from Border Patrol sources.
That is a lie. Where is an official report? Where is the Border Patrol Agent’s Union making these claims in public? Where? Nowhere, that’s where..!
Joining Boehner and Cantor in criticizing Backbencher King is House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) who told Telemundo that King’s declarations were “…inappropriate, it does not help the discussion, it’s not accurate, and there are ways to have a discussion about the legitimate policy issues without saying things that are unkind. And I hope we can get back to doing that.”
This is not the first time King has been responsible for a BIG LIE. It was in his “official” newsletter that Mexican illegal alien drunk drivers kill 4,000 Americans a year appeared. What was his source? Was it official FBI or Department of Transportation, or state highway Patrols or individual police departments? No. It was a blog notation by a retired INS agent who posted a guess.
Felony lying by a U.S. Congressman is not a crime. It is in a Congressman’s nature to lie.
Mexicans here illegally, especially defenseless children brought into the US as babies or ten year olds cannot defend themselves.
Stephen King is “sin verguenza,” without shame. He lies, he attacks innocent children with Big Lies that some live and breathe by.
Like his predecessors Perot, Buchanan, Tancredo, and Bilbray, King will fade away. Many of his defenseless target youngsters will survive and become citizens under a new law being drafted by Eric Cantor and Bob Goodlate, the very people who have dismissed King’s views as “inappropriate.” ###
