FIFTH ANNUAL DESERT SHOWDOWN INVITATIONAL AMATEUR BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP COMES TO SPOTLIGHT 29 CASINO JULY 12-15

Annual Event Draws Top Amateur Boxers from Across the Country

COACHELLA, Calif. (June 16, 2006) – The annual Desert Showdown Invitational Amateur Boxing Championship draws the best amateur boxers from across the country together for four days of intense action. The U.S.A. Boxing-sanctioned event is largely considered a stepping stone to the Olympics, and, now in its fifth year, it is bigger than ever.

The 5th annual event enters the ring at Spotlight 29 Casino July 12-15 and is open to the public. There are weigh-ins daily at 7:00 a.m., and fights begin at 11:00 a.m. Day tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children aged 3-12. Four-day passes are also available and are $20 for adults and $10 for children 3-12. Tickets are available now at the Spotlight 29 Casino Gift Shop and at the Spotlight Showroom Box Office on the day of the show.

The event brings fighters from California and across the U.S. Participating fighters who range in age from 17-22 and in weight from 106-201+, are ranked in the USA Book and have fought 40 or more bouts, will be battling for the BCR (Bert Colemia Romero) Amateur World Championship title in 11 weight categories.

The four-day event is produced by the Thermal Boxing Association, which exists primarily to help kids in Southern California by getting them off the streets, teaching them important lessons about discipline and coaching, providing them with mentors, giving them a sense of success and accomplishment, and showing them that they can achieve their goals and dreams.

Speaking for Thermal Boxing Association, Boxing Coach Ralph Romero said, “Our mission is all about setting and reaching goals. What our boxers learn about goals in training and in the ring will help them for the rest of their lives. This invitational is a major milestone for our boxers, and proves that they can achieve whatever they set their minds to.”

The fights are presented by Thermal Boxing Club. Sponsors include Spotlight 29 Casino, All Star Entertainment, X-Radio.Biz, and Shields Date Gardens.
