Tribute To Al Vasquez

Al Vasquez was a civil rights activist. I heard this before I met the man. I assumed he would be loud, boisterous and very opinionated. Well I got one right; he was opinionated. His quiet demeanor and thoughtfulness made me realized how intelligent and caring he was. He was advocate for Hispanics and firmly believed that the conservative principles of the Republican party; strong family values, support for hard working people and their business as well as love of their country was a far better fit than the other party. Al believed that if he could just educate and inform, Hispanics would support a party that truly cared about their well-being. To that end; what better way to accomplish this objective than starting a bilingual Hispanic newspaper.
Al loved his family and his wife Ana. Now that I think of it, I can’t remember seeing Al without Ana by his side. His love for his country was never in question. His commentaries focused on what is best for our country, not best for any political party. Al had no fear on calling out political people on their positions from taxes to abortion. Things you are uncomfortable talking about, Al thrived discussing.
I am very proud to have called Al my fellow Republican. Our Christian faith knows Al is with God.

“Al Vásquez fué un activista por los derechos civiles”, esto lo escuché antes de conocerlo personalmente, supuse que era algo exagerado, pero al conocer su forma de pensar y sus opiniones, comprendí que era mucho más que eso, realmente era un activista carismático.
Al Vásquez tenía una brillante inteligencia, que sobresalía a través de su consideración, su gentileza y su respeto, esto lo llevo a ser un gran defensor de los hispanos, creyendo firmemente, en los principios conservadores del partido Republicano, que sostienen los sólidos valores de la familia, el firme apoyo al trabajador y a sus negocios, sumados al amor por el país, producirían un cambio que se ajustara mejor a la integración y el fortalecimiento de todos.
Al Vásquez sabía que lo más importante es la educación y la información, por esa razón los hispanos apoyarían a un partido que, realmente se preocupaba por su bienestar, entonces para tal fin, qué mejor manera de lograr este objetivo que a través de un periódico bilingüe La Prensa Hispana.
Al Vásquez centraba sus comentarios en los temas que mejoraban la vida de los habitantes de este país, sin importar a qué partido político pertenecían, por eso nunca tuvo miedo de señalar a todos los políticos, de acuerdo a sus posturas, temas muy incómodos, como los impuestos o el aborto, Al los enfrentaba con fundamento y sabiamente.
Al, amaba a su familia y a su esposa Ana, ahora que lo pienso, no recuerdo haberlo visto nunca sin Ana a su lado. Estoy muy orgulloso de haberlo llamado: “mi compañero Republicano”, nuestra fe cristiana sabe que ahora está con Dios.
