State of the City

Welcome to the City of Festivals!

As the largest and fastest growing city in the Coachella Valley, Indio continues to be a vibrant community that is rich in history, culture, food, arts and world-class events. Although we are known as the #1 city in the US for live music with nearly 1.4 million people visiting us every year, we are continuously improving the quality of life of our 90,000 residents that is expected to increase to 170,000 by 2035.
Our exceptional schools, nationally-recognized public safety services, and top-ranked community services and healthcare facilities are the reasons so many people are calling Indio home. With the highest number of building permits issued in eastern Riverside County, we are moving at an incredible pace building new hotels, restaurants, and over 3,000 units of housing.
What makes Indio truly great is our people. Our families, teens, seniors, and business owners who have lived here for generations or just moved here recently makes Indio a dynamic and friendly place as a large city with a small-town feel.
My fellow councilmembers and I thank all the people who have cared for this community and have joined us in shaping its future. Right here, right now, Indio is a city on the move!
Warm regards,
Mayor Elaine Holmes
