Métodos agricultura anticuados e innecesarios pueden estar dañando a nuestros niños. En una reciente reunión con el Junta de Recursos del Aire de California (CARB) y el Distrito de Control de Contaminación de Aire del Condado de Imperial (ICAPCD) presentamos el hecho de que este condado continua permitiendo la Quema Agrícola aun cuando el Condado de Imperial County es un Condado que no ha logrado calidad de aire, lo que quiere decir el aire está a su máxima contaminación, y aun en días buenos el Distrito de Control de Contaminación de Aire del Condado de Imperial permite a los agricultores quemar sus campos. Esto significa que el Condado ha decidido que vale la pena arriesgar la salud y oportunidades de los niños para que los granjeros locales puedan hacer algo rápido y más barato.
La Militar de EU no aceptará a jóvenes diagnosticados con asma. Los niños del Condado de Imperial que han sido diagnosticados con asma, quizá solo estén reaccionando a la pobre calidad de aire y esto les costara las oportunidades que otros niños americanos tienen, incluyendo servir en la militar y aprovechar el GI Bill.
La Junta de la Patrulla Nacional Fronteriza, Local 2554, está preocupada por quienes viven en el Condado de Imperial, especialmente quienes viven enseguida del Rio Nuevo y alrededor de la cuenca del Salton Sea. Estamos particularmente preocupados por los reportes de niños de 5 a 13 años con sangrado nasal todo el año en el Este del Valle de Coachella. Les hemos pedido un Estudio Epidemiológico a nuestros Asambleísta y Congresista locales, y a otras Agencias Estatales, hasta ahorita, el único representante que se ha interesado fue el Congresista Raúl Ruiz. El Asambleísta García ha fallado en responder a nuestras peticiones, a pesar de numerosos intentos por informarle a él y a su personal sobre el “Problema Ambiental” de nuestra región.
No hay carencia de contaminación en el Condado de Imperial, pero como los Agentes de la Patrulla fronteriza vienen de todo Estados Unidos, Podemos testificar el hecho de que no teníamos alergias ni asma en nuestros pueblos, pero tenemos problemas respirando el aire del Condado de Imperial y la Cuenca del Salton Sea. Somos miembros de estas comunidades y usaremos cualquier Avenida a nuestra disposición para acabar con este mal ambiente para los niños del Condado de Imperial y la Cuenca del Salton Sea.

To Whom It May Concern:
Outdated and unnecessary farming methods may be harming your children. At a recent meeting with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Imperial County Air Pollution Control District (ICAPCD) we brought up the fact that this county continues to allow Agricultural Burning when Imperial County is a Non-Attainment County for air quality, which means it is at capacity for air pollution, yet on good air days the Imperial County Air Pollution Control District allows local farmers to burn their fields. This means that Imperial County has decided that in order for local farmers to be able to do something quicker and cheaper it is worth risking your child’s health and opportunities.
The U.S. Military will not accept young adults who have been diagnosed with asthma.
The children of Imperial County that have been diagnosed with asthma may just be reacting to the poor air quality and this in turn is costing them the opportunities that other American children have, including serving in the U.S. Military and taking advantage of the GI Bill.
National Border Patrol Council Local 2554 is concerned about the people who live in Imperial County especially the people who live next to the New River and around the Salton Sea Basin. We are particularly concerned about the reports of children between the ages of 5 to 13 that have year-round nose bleeds in the Eastern Coachella Valley. We have asked our local Assemblyman, Congressmen, and other State Agencies for an Epidemiological Study, so far, the only representative to pick up this cause is Congressman Raul Ruiz. Assemblyman Garcia has failed to respond to our requests, regardless of the numerous attempts to inform him and his Staff of the “Environmental Nuisance” within our region.
There is no shortage of pollution in Imperial County but since Border Patrol Agents come from all over the United States, we can attest to the fact that we did not have allergies or asthma in the towns we came from but we do have problems breathing the air in Imperial County and around the Salton Sea Basin. We are members of these communities and we will use every avenue at our disposal to end this poor environment for the children of Imperial County and the Salton Sea Basin.
