Los beneficiarios de Seguridad de Ingreso Suplementario (SSI) recibirán su primer cheque con su incremento de ajuste por costo de vida COLA de 2023 en esta semana. El aumento del cheque será del 8.7% y es adicional al que recibieron a principios de diciembre.
La Administración del Seguro Social sigue un calendario muy estricto sobre el envío de los pagos mensuales. Quienes reciben SSI, los pagos casi siempre se envían el primer día de cada mes. Sin embargo, hay excepciones por las cuales no podría llegar el primer día de cada mes. Una de ellas es si la fecha de pago regular cae en un día feriado o en un fin de semana.
Dado a que el primer día de enero cae es feriado y coincide con el fin de semana, la administración suele mandar los cheques el día hábil más cercano, que en este caso cae el viernes 30 de diciembre. Los beneficiarios recibirán su cheque a finales de diciembre en lugar de hacerlo en el arranque del 2023.
Para quienes son beneficiarios del SSI y del Seguro Social solo obtendrán un beneficio de SSI en diciembre. El incremento del Seguro Social comenzará a enviarse el martes 3 de enero.
En caso que no estés seguro de cuánto incremento de beneficios obtendrás se recomienda consultar el centro de mensajes de su cuenta My Social Security para ver el aviso sobre el nuevo monto a recibir. En caso de no haber creado una cuenta antes de la fecha límite del 15 de noviembre es probable que recibas por correo una carta con los detalles del aumento.
Se calcula que más de 70 millones de beneficiarios del Seguro Social obtendrán un aumento.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive their first check with their 2023 COLA cost-of-living adjustment increase this week. The increase in the check will be 8.7% and is additional to what they received at the beginning of December.
The Social Security Administration follows a very strict schedule for sending out monthly payments. For SSI recipients, payments are almost always sent out on the first day of each month. However, there are exceptions for which you could not arrive on the first day of each month. One is if your regular payment date falls on a holiday or weekend.
Since the first day of January falls on a holiday and coincides with the weekend, the administration usually sends the checks on the nearest business day, which in this case falls on Friday, December 30. Beneficiaries will receive their check at the end of December instead of at the start of 2023.
For those who are SSI and Social Security recipients, they will only get an SSI benefit in December. The Social Security increase will begin shipping on Tuesday, January 3.
In case you are not sure how much increase in benefits you will get, it is recommended to check the message center of your My Social Security account to see the notice about the new amount to receive. If you have not created an account by the November 15 deadline, you will likely receive a letter in the mail with the details of the increase.
