A partir de este lunes 30 de enero de 2023 el Servicio de Ciudadanía e Inmigración de EE.UU. (USCIS, en inglés) emite las nuevas Tarjetas de Residente Permanente (Green Card) y Documentos de Autorización de Empleo (EAD), las cuales contarán con otras medidas de seguridad para evitar fraudes.
“Hemos rediseñado las Tarjetas de Residente Permanente y EAD para mantener estándares óptimos de seguridad. Comenzaremos a emitir nuevas tarjetas el 30 de enero de 2023. Las tarjetas actuales siguen siendo válidas hasta su fecha de vencimiento”, señala USCIS en sus redes sociales.
Las nuevas medidas buscan “un enfoque proactivo contra la amenaza de manipulación, falsificación y fraude de documentos”, señaló en un comunicado Ur M. Jaddou, directora del Servicio de Ciudadanía e Inmigración de Estados Unidos.
Dentro de las medidas de seguridad están: “ilustraciones detalladas actualizadas y mejoradas; impresión táctil que se integra mejor con el diseño; tinta óptica variable mejorada; imágenes holográficas altamente seguras en la parte frontal y posterior de las tarjetas; una nueva función de revelación de capas con una ventana parcial en el cuadro de fotos posterior; y los campos de datos colocados en lugares diferentes a los de las versiones anteriores”, detalla USCIS.
Debido a los retrasos en los trámites por la pandemia de COVID-19, USCIS extendió por dos años la validez de tarjetas de residencia permanente y aclaró que las anteriores se mantendrán vigentes.
“Algunas tarjetas de residente permanente y EAD emitidos después del 30 de enero de 2023 pueden mostrar el formato del diseño actual porque USCIS continuará usando la cartulina existente hasta que se agoten los suministros actuales. Ambas versiones de las tarjetas son aceptables para el Formulario I-9, Verificación de Elegibilidad de Empleo; E-Verify; y el Programa de Verificación Sistemática de Derechos del Extranjero (SAVE).”, aclara el comunicado.
El gobierno de Estados Unidos emitió tarjetas de residencia entre 1979 y agosto de 1989 sin vencimiento mismas que siguen siendo válidas.
La agencia estadounidense también hizo un llamado a los portadores de residencias permanente sin fecha de vencimiento para que consideren solicitar una tarjeta de reemplazo para evitar fraudes.

As of this Monday, January 30, 2023, the US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) issues the new Permanent Resident Cards (Green Card) and Employment Authorization Documents (EAD), which They will have other security measures to prevent fraud.
“We have redesigned the Permanent Resident Cards and EADs to maintain optimal security standards. We will begin issuing new cards on January 30, 2023. Current cards remain valid until their expiration date,” USCIS points out on its social media.
The new measures seek “a proactive approach against the threat of document manipulation, forgery and fraud,” said Ur M. Jaddou, director of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, in a statement.
Among the security measures are: “updated and improved detailed illustrations; tactile impression that integrates better with the design; improved variable optical ink; highly secure holographic images on the front and back of the cards; a new layer reveal feature with a partial window in the back photo frame; and the data fields placed in different places than those of the previous versions”, details USCIS.
Due to the delays in the procedures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, USCIS extended the validity of permanent residence cards for two years and clarified that the previous ones will remain valid.
“Some permanent resident cards and EADs issued after January 30, 2023 may display the format of the current design because USCIS will continue to use the existing cardstock until current supplies run out. Both versions of the cards are acceptable for Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification; E-Verify; and the Program for the Systematic Verification of Alien Rights (SAVE)”, clarifies the statement.
The United States government issued green cards between 1979 and August 1989 without expiration, which are still valid.
The US agency also called on holders of permanent residences without an expiration date to consider requesting a replacement card to avoid fraud.
