Tribute To Al Vasquez

There may still be a few people around the Valley that remember the Palm Desert Town Center; its popular Red Onion, the ice skating rink, and the Cinema 10 Theater; today known as the Palm Desert 10 Cinemas.  Al was a special man who I am blessed to have shared one of my very first job experiences.  It is at the Cinema 10 Theater that I had the privilege of meeting and the pleasure of working with Al Vasquez, a manager back in 1988. I am certain the long-time Valley residents, remember the two suited men that stood by the entrance greeting the public as they stepped into the theater; Al always wore the dark suit.  He was more than a manager to the ninety percent of the theater staff that was made up of high school students; Al was a friend.  A friend you could easily share your school day, worries, and ideas.  You shared with Al, because you wanted his opinion, advice, and/or words of encouragement on the matter.  However, some may have had the impression that Al was always serious, little did one know that he had the best sense of humor.  Al was a natural, wise, kind, fair, funny, genuine – a true gentleman.  A man I grew to admire because he possessed traits many of us work very hard to perfect; yet, for Al it was all second-nature.   I am confident that without Al’s support I would not have been offered the supervisor position at the young age of 19.  All the credit to Al the mentor and leader who led by example.
First question I asked myself, was “Where have I been?.”  Quarterly, I have contact with Ana regarding La Prensa Hispana; every time she delivers a full copy of the publication.  How could I have missed the article of his passing or the tribute articles this last year?  How could the life of a man who had a positive impact in my life have ended and I not know?  This proofs that I am allowing everyday life to pass me without paying close attention to what matters – family and friends.  This is a kind reminder that “tomorrow is promised to no one” let us all take time to “smell the roses.”
Thank you Ana, for allowing me to take part in this tribute to Al Vasquez.  Al, you will forever hold a very special place in my heart.

Todavía puede haber algunas personas alrededor del Valle que recuerden el Palm Desert Town Center; su popular Red Onion, la pista de patinaje sobre hielo y el Cinema 10; hoy conocido como Palm Desert 10 Cinemas. Al fue un hombre especial, una bendición haber compartido mi primera experiencia de trabajo. En el Cinema 10 donde tuve el privilegio de conocer y el placer de trabajar con Al Vasquez. Estoy segura de que los residentes de Valley desde hace mucho tiempo, recuerdan a los dos personas de traje que estaban cerca a la puerta de entrada de el público cuando entraban al teatro; Al siempre usaba el traje azul. Era más que un gerente, para el noventa por ciento del personal de teatro que estaba compuesto por estudiantes de secundaria; Al era un amigo que con el que podías  compartir fácilmente tu día escolar, preocupaciones e ideas y sobre todo tener la opinión de Al, y sus consejos y / o palabras de aliento sobre lo que podías hacer. Sin embargo, algunos pueden haber tenido la impresión de que Al siempre hablaba en serio, poco sabían que tenía el mejor sentido del humor. Al era un hombre sencillo, sabio, amable, justo, divertido, genuino, un verdadero caballero. Un hombre que admirabas por su confianza en si mismo  y que creía en que todo era posible, con el apoyo de Al  logre el puesto de supervisora en la temprana edad de 19 años. Todo el crédito para Al, el mentor y líder un gran ejemplo seguir.
La primera pregunta que me hice fue cuando vi la nota“¿Dónde he estado?”. Pasaron 7 meses cuando lei articulo del tributo Al Vasquez una persona que tuvo un impacto grande y positivo en mi vida, fué triste, esto demuestra que estoy permitiendo que la vida cotidiana me pase sin prestar atención a lo que importa: la familia y los amigos. Este es un amable recordatorio de que “ el mañana no se lo prometemos a nadie”, debemos vivir el día a día.
Gracias Ana, por permitirme participar en este tributo a Al Vasquez. Al, siempre tendrás un lugar muy especial en mi corazón.
