Tribute To Al Vasquez

If Al Vasquez had not gone into journalism after his brilliant service in the United States Marines, he should have been a talent scout. He would have found record setting talent for the big leagues. He had a unique instinct for finding talent, surrounding himself with talent, and then fulfilling dreams together. Take ventures like the International Hispanic Awards born from his visionary plan to stimulate and reward Hispanic professionals. How do you choose from such a wide and varied field? That was Al. He always found just the right recipients, acknowledged by their colleagues and the community.
But Al Vasquez was not the only one seeking talent. There was a certain young lady, Ana G.Vasquez, bright and talented herself, who was also seeking talent. It was not long before these talented people found each other. Besides finding talent, they found love!
However, the story does not end there, it was just beginning. Combining talent and love, they encouraged and built up talent throughout the Coachella Valley. Through the weekly print and online publication of La Prensa, their influence has extended beyond the borders of our valley. Al Vasquez has certainly left an immense void in the community he unselfishly served.
However, the State Assembly of California has said it much better. I quote only a portion of a resolution passed last year.
“WHEREAS, Alfred R. Vasquez… character and deeds in life merit gratitude and respectful acknowledgment by the people of the State; and
“WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Al Vasquez exhibited all of the most treasured human qualities that are universally recognized as true indicators of a life of fulfillment and meaning, and he was admired and appreciated for his kindness, generosity of spirit, family eternal optimism, passion for working to make the world a better place, and genuine capacity to share his time and talents with others… RESOLVED, That the exemplary life and illustrious record of professional civic accomplishments of Alfred R. Vásquez be memorialized henceforth and hereafter…” Members Resolution No. 2119 (by Chad Mayes), November 29, 2017).

 

Si Al Vásquez no hubiera seguido el periodismo después de su brillante carrera en los United States Marines, debiera haberse dedicado a ser un busca talentos. Hubiera batido récords encontrando talento para las grandes ligas. Tenía un instinto insólito para encontrar talento y rodearse con personas talentosas para luego cumplir sueños en conjunto. Por ejemplo, los Premios Hispanos Internacionales que nació de su visión para fomentar y premiar profesionistas Hispanos. ¿Cómo es posible escoger de un campo tan amplio y variado? Al tenía el talento. Siempre encontraba los merecidos ganadores, reconocidos y avalados por sus colegas y la comunidad.
Pero Al Vásquez no era el único que buscaba talento. Había cierta joven, Ana G.Vasquez, también brillante y excepcionalmente talentosa que buscaba talento. No podía pasar mucho tiempo sin que se encontraran, y cuando se encontraron, encontraron talento y ¡amor!
Pero la historia no terminó ahí, apenas comenzaba. Con esa combinación de talento y amor, promovieron y cultivaron personas talentosas por todo el Valle de Coachella. Por medio de la publicación del semanario La Prensa, su influencia ha ido más allá de los límites de nuestro valle. Al Vásquez ha dejado un inmenso vacío en la comunidad que sirvió con tanta entrega.
Pero la Asamblea del Estado de California lo ha dicho mucho mejor. Cito tan sólo parte de una resolución proclamada el año pasado.
“POR CUANTO, el carácter de Alfred R. Vásquez y sus logros en vida merecen gratitud y respetuoso reconocimiento por el pueblo del Estado; y
“POR CUANTO, A lo largo de su vida, Al Vásquez desplegó todas de las más preciadas cualidades humanas universalmente reconocidas como marcadores de una vida de logros de gran valor, y fue admirado y apreciado por su bondad, generosidad de espíritu, familia, eterno optimismo, pasión por lograr un mundo mejor, y una genuina capacidad para compartir su tiempo y talentos con otros…
“SEA RESUELTO Que la vida ejemplar y el récord de vida ilustre de logros profesionales de Alfred R. Vásquez, se conmemore en homenaje público hoy y para siempre…” Resolución de la Cámara No. 2119 (por Chad Mayes). 29 de noviembre de 2017.
