Tribute To Al Vasquez

So, one day in the not so distance past (6 years ago) I never expected to be  introduced to my “Most Unforgettable Character”, but I was and it did not take long for me to realize it was  Al Vasquez.  Al and his equally unforgettable wife Ana, the owners and editors of the  La Prensa Hispana Newspaper, the only bilingual newspaper in the Coachella Valley.
Al was very  devoted to his conservative views and weekly would place a commentary in English and Spanish  on a political subject going on at the time. In essence it was a learning opportunity to all who read the logic that Al would insert. He was amazing man and one I will never forget.  Al shared with me and other readers of the La Prensa Hispana many  Wise Words of  Wisdom, I called these the three “w’s.”
How he saw this Country as the greatest place to live and prosper and how to share  what he could do to make things better.  For instance Al was the founder of the International Hispanic Film Festival and International Hispanic Awards which are held annually in Palm Springs.
Producing the television talk show Abriendo Puertas en la Comunidad, Al was the founder of the International Hispanic  Film Festival and the International Hispanic Awards which are held annually in Palm Springs.
Recently Al decided to award a Scholarship to a  graduate from a local high school who will be majoring in Journalism.  He was a champion in finding ways to help others.
There were so many things that Al and Ana were involved in that it would take hours to put on paper, something Al could do in minutes.
Al is already missed, I will forever be grateful for having the privilege of knowing Al.  He is my “Most Unforgettable Character” God Bless him.
Ana maintains the vision that Al had for this country, community and the La Prensa Hispana Newspaper.

Así es, un día en la distancia no es tan pasado (hace 6 años). Yo nunca espera conocer a mi “Personaje Inolvidable”, pero sucedió y no tardé mucho para darme cuenta quien era Al Vásquez. Al y su inigualable esposa Ana, dueños y editores del semanario “La Prensa Hispana”, el único periódico bilingüe en el valle de Coachella.
Al era muy entregado a sus conservadores puntos de vista. Y semanalmente colocaba sus comentarios políticos del momento en Inglés y en Español. En esencia, era una oportunidad de aprendizaje para todos los que leyeran la lógica que él insertaba en sus notas. Fué un hombre al que nunca olvidaré. Compartía conmigo y con todos los lectores de La Prensa Hispana sus sabias palabras de sabiduría (Wise Words of Wisdom) las que llamé en Inglés las tres W’s.
¿Cómo fue que vio a esté país como el mejor lugar para vivir y prosperar, y cómo compartir lo que se podría hacer para que todo fuera mejor? Aquí varios ejemplos, Al fue el fundador del Festival Internacional del Cine Hispano y de International Hispanic Awards que se celebran anualmente en Palm Springs. También produjo y actuó acompañado de Ana en el programa de televisión Abriendo Puertas en la Comunidad.
Recientemente, decidió otorgar una beca a un graduado de una Escuela Secundaria local que deseara especializarse en Periodismo. ¡Era el campeón para encontrar maneras de ayudar a los demás!
Hubo tantas cosas en las que Al y Ana participaron, que me tomaría horas poner en el papel algo que Al podría hacer en minutos.
Hoy Al está ausente, pero siempre estaré agradecida por tener el privilegio de haberle conocido. Él siempre será mi “ Personaje Inolvidable” Dios lo bendiga.
Ahora su esposa Ana continúa manteniendo la visión que Al tuvo de este país y en la comunidad, a través del magnífico semanario La Prensa Hispana.

Gracias Ana
