The Essence of the Mexican People

Throughout history, Mexicans have been identified for being a race of Good manners, hardworking, grateful, and of strong faith; when president Reagan’s amnesty was approved in 1986, out of the 2.7 million who benefited from it, at least half were Mexicans. Before this amnesty, when the “Bracero” program was created providing work visas, it was directed to Mexicans, because even the fields owners openly declared they preferred Mexican labor over any other.
Mexicans have been people of peace and principles, and even though entire families have immigrated to this nation, we teach our children good manners, family values, and moral principles we have received from our ancestors; but what is happening lately to the essence of Mexicans in this country? Last Saturday we astonishingly watched how the media informed of the attack to an ICE detention center, performed by “Mexican.” Why Mexicans? Well, because it was the Mexican flag that replaced the US flag. Perhaps the organized protests throughout the nation were only made by Mexicans?
If that wasn’t enough, the Mexican Consulate in San Bernardino and other organizations, including “Morena without Borders,” (Morena is the majority party in Mexico) summon and present a meeting that sounds like they’re getting ready to overthrow this Country’s government, and then the Catholic church facilitates the venue for such meeting? The flyer read: “President Donald trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric has wreaked havoc and divided the Latino community of the US, so California leaders have decided to get to work.” Facebook describes into detail how they intend to meet with the current Mexican president to receive his support, and that “the more than 15,000,000 of Latino voters need to organize in order to prevent president Trump’s reelection.” During the meeting in Riverside, which happened the same Saturday the flag was pulled down in Colorado, activist Armando Navarro in his opening speech mentioned both Jesus Christ and Fidel Castro on the same phrase saying: “Christ started off with 12, had a hard time with one, he ended up with an incredible movement, Fidel Castro started off with 86, ended up with 12, he wound up with the Cuban Revolution.” Can we really not see that Mexicans are being used to advance the political and economic interests of others? How is it possible that as Mexicans, we are falling into the same thing we wouldn’t allow in our own country?
One of the verses in the Mexican National Anthem says: “but if a strange enemy dared to desecrate your land with their feet, think oh homeland that heaven gave you a soldier in each son.” When the French, the most powerful and better armed army decided to attack Mexico on May 5th, 1867 the Mexican army had more ordinary citizens tan soldiers, nevertheless they were willing to give their lives to protect their homeland. Historians say that when Mexicans ran out of ammo, they attacked the French with rocks, machetes, and even cannon balls, defeating the powerful French army What made them act with such courage? The patriotism captured in the anthem, because the enemy was desecrating their land. Are we now trying to become enemies of the land that took us in? Are we so prepotent that we feel entitled to attack the government of the country where we have a lifestyle we probably couldn’t have in our own country? Are we so ungrateful that we’re going to deny the country of our children and our future generations?
No, that is not the essence of the Mexicans, those are reactions of a wounded animal, not of a humble, hard-working, and grateful people who acknowledge that everything we have comes from God and that, if we thrive, is because He gives us the ability to do it. It’s time to open our eyes and not be deceived, it’s time to see beyond our emotions and realize that we have been used by people with last names similar to ours, who have only put us Infront of a battle in which only they have something to win, because what’s going to happen when the rebellion increases and the only flag being waved is the Mexican flag? How will we look before the country we live in? We’re praying for an amnesty to fix our status, but by allowing others to project us Mexicans in such way, our chances of it are fading. No, that is not the essence of us Mexicans. We are good people, we are thankful people, what is happening to us? We’re losing the focus and is time to refocus if we want to leave a future of peace to our children and grandchildren in this country.
Mexicans to the scream of war! Recites our national anthem. I would translate that in these crucial times and day: Mexicans, wake up and remember! Yes, remember that we are better than the few who are trying to start up a war using us as shields. Mexicans wake up and remember! That in the times of great trials, is when we have shone the most and when the love and solidarity have identified us best. Don’t fall in the games of a few, don’t believe the lies that tell you you’re despised and victimized; instead, look around you, see your family, the roof you live under, the car you drive, the food on your table, your job or business, and ask yourself: could I provide for my family this way if I was in my country? Then, hug them and be thankful, and teach them to be thankful as well. Tell them where God brought you from, so they learn to love this land that took them in. Mexicans, let’s recover our essence, remember our value, let’s not allow them to make us feel victims, because we’re not, we’re good people, we’re successful, we’re people of good.

 

A lo largo de la historia, los mexicanos nos hemos identificado por ser una raza de buenas costumbres, trabajadora, agradecida, y de mucha fe; de hecho, cuando se aprobó la amnistía del presidente Ronald Reagan en 1986, de los 2.7 millones de beneficiados, por lo menos la mitad eran mexicanos. Previo a esta amnistía, cuando se creó el programa de visas de trabajo conocido como “Bracero,” fue también dirigido a los mexicanos, ya que los dueños de los campos abiertamente declaraban que preferían la mano de obra mexicana sobre cualquier otra.
Los mexicanos hemos sido gente de paz y de principios, y aunque familias enteras hemos emigrado a esta nación americana, inculcamos a nuestros hijos las buenas costumbres, los valores familiares, y los principios morales recibidos de nuestros antepasados; pero, ¿qué está pasando con la esencia del mexicano en este país, en los últimos tiempos? El sábado pasado vimos atónitamente como todos los medios informaban sobre el ataque en un Centro de Detención de Inmigración (ICE), realizado por “mexicanos.” ¿Por qué se dice que mexicanos? Porque fue la bandera mexicana la que reemplazó la bandera estadounidense en la asta. ¿Acaso las manifestaciones orquestadas a lo largo del país solo constaron de mexicanos?
Por si fuera poco, el Consulado de México en San Bernardino y otras organizaciones, incluyendo “Morena sin Fronteras,” convocan y realizan una reunión de planeación que, al leerse, pareciera que estaban convocando a derrocar al gobierno de este país, ¿y aparte la iglesia católica facilita sus instalaciones para dicha reunión? El volante promocional lee: “La retórica antiinmigrante del presidente Donald Trump ha causado estragos y ha dividido a la comunidad latina en los EU, por lo que líderes de California han decidido poner manos a la obra.” Facebook describe más a detalle como intentan hasta reunirse con el presidente actual de México para recibir su apoyo, y que “los más de 15,000,000 de votantes latinos deben organizarse para prevenir la reelección del presidente Trump.” Durante la reunión que llevaron a cabo en Riverside, el mismo sábado en que fue tumbada la bandera en Colorado, el activista Armando Navarro en su discurso de apertura citó a Jesucristo y a Fidel castro en la misma frase, diciendo “Cristo comenzó con 12, batalló con uno, y terminó con un movimiento increíble; Fidel Castro comenzó con 86, terminó con 12 y logró la Revolución Cubana.” ¿Acaso no podemos darnos cuenta los mexicanos que estamos siendo utilizados para avanzar intereses políticos y económicos de otros? ¿Cómo es posible que estemos cayendo en lo que como mexicanos, no permitiríamos en nuestro propio país?  Una de las estrofas del Himno Nacional Mexicano dice: “Mas si osare un extraño enemigo, profanar con sus plantas tu suelo, piensa oh patria querida que el cielo un soldado en cada hijo te dio.” Cuando los franceses, el ejército más potente y mejor armado, decidieron atacaron México el 5 de mayo de 1867, el ejército mexicano constaba con más ciudadanos comunes que con soldados, sin embargo, estos ciudadanos estaban dispuestos a dar sus vidas por defender a la patria. Cuentan los historiadores que cuando las municiones se acabaron, los mexicanos atacaron con machetes, piedras, y hasta balas de cañón, derrotando así al poderoso ejército francés. ¿Qué los hizo actuar con extremo valor? el patriotismo plasmado en el himno porque un enemigo estaba profanando su tierra. ¿Acaso ahora pretendemos volvernos enemigos del suelo que nos ha acogido? ¿Acaso somos tan prepotentes para sentirnos “con el derecho” de atacar al gobierno del país donde tenemos un estilo de vida que quizá en nuestra tierra no pudiéramos llevar? ¿Acaso ahora somos tan mal agradecidos que vamos a renegar de la cuna de nuestros hijos y nuestra futura decendencia?
No, esa no es la esencia de los mexicanos, esas son reacciones de un animal herido, no de un pueblo humilde, trabajador, y agradecido que reconoce que todo lo que tenemos proviene de Dios y que, si prosperamos, es porque Él nos da la habilidad de hacerlo. Es tiempo de abrir los ojos y no dejarnos engañar, es tiempo de ver más allá de nuestras emociones, y darnos cuenta que hemos sido usados por gente con apellidos como los nuestros, que solo nos han puesto al frente de una batalla en la que solo ellos tienen algo que ganar, porque ¿Qué va a pasar cuando la rebelión se incremente y la única bandera que se ondee en esa lucha sea la mexicana? ¿Cómo quedaríamos ante el país en el cual vivimos? Estamos orando por una amnistía para regularizar el estatus de muchos de nosotros, pero al permitir que se proyecte al mexicano de esa manera, estamos alejando las posibilidades cada vez más. No, esa no es nuestra esencia, esos no somos los mexicanos, nosotros somos gente de bien, somos gente agradecida, ¿Qué nos está pasando? Estamos perdiendo el enfoque y es tempo de retomarlo si queremos dejar a nuestros hijos y nietos un futuro de paz en este país.
¡Mexicanos al grito de guerra! Convoca nuestro himno nacional. En este momento crucial yo lo traduciría a: ¡Mexicano despierta y recuerda! Si, recuerda que nosotros somos mejor que unos cuantos que intentan iniciar una guerra usándonos como sus escudos. ¡Mexicano despierta y recuerda! Que, en los momentos de mayor prueba, es cuando hemos brillado más y cuando la solidaridad y el amor, es lo que nos ha identificado. No caigas en el juego de unos cuantos, no te creas la mentira que te dice que eres despreciado y victimizado; al contrario, mira a tu alrededor, contempla a tu familia, el techo bajo el que vives, el auto en el que transitas, la comida en tu mesa, tu trabajo o negocio, y pregúntate: ¿acaso podría proveer de esta manera a mi familia si estuviese en mi país? Entonces abrázalos y se agradecido, pero enséñales a también serlo. Cuéntales de donde te trajo Dios para que aprendan a amar esta tierra que los acogió. Mexicanos, recobremos nuestra esencia, recordemos nuestro valor, ya no permitamos que nos hagan sentir victimas porque no lo somos, somos gente buena, somos triunfadores, somos personas de bien.
