Tamale Festival Announces Entertainment Lineup
13th ANNUAL TAMALE FESTIVAL, Old Town Indio
The 13th Annual Indio International Tamale Festival presented by Fantasy Springs Resort Casino has announced its schedule of entertainment for this year. The festival will feature the international rhythms of Mariachi, Tejano, Latin, Blues, Salsa and Cubano on the streets around city hall in Old Towne Indio. The festival’s 3 different stages provide a continuous variety of entertainment from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Saturday and 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM Sunday and includes local and professional dancers, singers and musicians.
The Fiesta Stage located on Smurr Street will ignite with the world-famous band Tierra taking the stage at 6:30 PM on Saturday evening. The band was named “Best R&B Vocal Group” by four leading magazines including Billboard and blend rock, pop, jazz, R&B and salsa. The result is a Latin R&B rhythm which produced classics like “Together”, “Gonna Find Her”, “Memories” and “Zoot Suit Boogie”. The band’s quarter century commitment shows a dedication that can only be understood by listening to their smooth and soulful sounds.
Headlining the Fiesta Stage on Sunday is Ersi, La Chicana and her Revue with Mickey Lespron, The Sisters, Rosella and Los Conquistadores.
This 18 piece musical celebration is not to be missed and is guaranteed to be fun for the entire family. Don’t forget the marvelous fireworks display to follow the show each evening.
In addition, the Fiesta Stage will host such great musical artists as Gitano, Caravana, Savor, Connection and Grupo Los Soliz to name a few.
The festival’s Amigo Stage located on Towne Street will include the magical sounds of Mariachi Juvenil de Abel Garcia, Savor, Chico, Ivan Garcia, Ritmo Salvaje and Shayla with Groupo Viento. In addition, Univision Television is going to do a live taping of their extremely popular variety television show “Cante y Gane” on the Amigo Stage at 4:30 PM Saturday. Come see several people from the community take a shot at stardom by participating in this hilariously entertaining television program.
The Community Stage at Miles Avenue and Towne Streets is ever popular with the crowds and features young people from local schools, churches and the community performing a variety of acts in colorful costumes. Some of the performing groups this year include Saul Martinez School, Club la Flor, Kids Rok, Thomas Jefferson Mariachi, Roman Maciel and Ballet Folklorica Cultural.
New for this year is a nightly firework show at 8:00 PM Saturday and 6:00 PM Sunday, which will light the skies to the north of the festival at the conclusion of each evening’s festivities.
The Tamale Festival holder of two Guinness World records and the largest event in the Inland Empire area during the holiday season is in its final stages of preparation and expects crowds to exceed 150,000 this year.
