SunLine Transit Agency Offers Discounted Summer “Go Pass” For Youth

SunLine Transit Agency has launched the sale of its annual summer Go Pass. The Go Pass is a special discounted three month pass for youth, ages 5-17, for use between June 1 and August 31, 2009 on any fixed bus route at a cost of $30.
Young people can travel in a convenient, air conditioned, safe and reliable “green” vehicle for approximately 32 cents per day. The limited-time offer represents a $42 savings over standard pricing. Children 5-12 years of age must be accompanied by a paying adult.
“We are pleased to once again offer the discounted summer Go Pass for our youth giving them the ability to travel to summer jobs and activities while saving parents time and gas,” states SunLine General Manager, C. Mikel Oglesby.
Approximately 4,500 fliers explaining the GO Pass program have been distributed to various middle and high-school classrooms throughout the Valley. The artwork which features children of SunLine employees has been converted into a mini-billboard format and prominently placed in various bus shelters to help promote awareness of the summer Go Pass program. In addition, SunLine staff successfully secured the participation of local libraries, museums, city offices and even the Mary Pickford theatre signing on – to help spread the word.
Oglesby states, “An added benefit to riding our “green” environmentally friendly SunBus will be the lowered carbon emissions in the Valley reduced by the number of single occupancy vehicles on the road, so families taking advantage of the Go Pass will demonstrate their support for environmental sustainability, as well.”
SunLine pioneered low-emission public transportation back in the mid-1990’s by converting its entire bus fleet to clean burning natural gas and hydrogen and continues to be a leader in using cutting edge technology. SunLine’s zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell bus and companion hydrogen-powered internal combustion hybrid vehicle both represent future technologies that provide service to the Valley today.
