SunLine Receives Award
SunLine Transit Agency General Manager, C. Mikel Oglesby, received recognition, on behalf of the Agency, at the American Public Transportation Association Annual Conference and Expo, by Metro Magazine as one of the “Top 10 Great Transit Systems to Work For”. Metro Magazine searched throughout the U.S. and Canada to identify the ten of the top transit agencies employers.
Oglesby stated “The environment within the Agency demanded change due to mismanagement by prior administration. Employees not only accepted change, they welcomed it. This recognition serves as validation that through teamwork and open communication between employees and management, an environment of opportunity and achievement can be created.”
As part of the selection process, a number of Agency employees took part in a survey to measure employee satisfaction with benefits, training, employee recognition and overall morale. In the Metro Magazine article, one employee was quoted “SunLine provides a number of exciting programs to benefit the employees, including a weight-loss program with twice-weekly exercise classes and ongoing nutritional information. Employees are also recognized through the Employee of the Quarter program, which recognizes outstanding work. It’s a joy coming to work each day.” The majority of the employees stated that they would be “likely” or “very likely” to recommend SunLine as place of employment.
Chairman of the Board of SunLine Transit Agency, Michael Wilson, was on hand for the recognition; “On behalf of the Board of Directors, I commend the Agency, through the leadership of Oglesby, for the hard work and dedication not only to the community, but to each other, creating a positive work environment that is being recognized today.”

Its vehicles travel more than 21 million passenger miles per year, covering over 556 bus stops located throughout a 1,120 mile-service area. SunLine offers fixed route bus service and curb-to-curb paratransit for the mobility impaired.
