Our rights continue to be disregarded as Democrats and progressives push for vaccine mandates and try to control our children in schools.
Senators Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Richard Pan (D-Sacramento) introduced SB 866, the Teens Choose Vaccines Act, which would allow minors in California to receive any vaccines “approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that meet the recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”
Children as young as 12 years old could choose to receive a vaccination, including the COVID-19 vaccine, without their parents even being notified.
“So many teens want to be vaccinated so that they can lead a more normal life—participating in sports or band, traveling, going to friends’ homes—but they’re prevented from doing so due to their parents’ political views or inability to find the time,” said Weiner to justify the legislation. Parents’ warranted objections should be respected on their own, but the fact that teens feel the need to be vaccinated in order to live a “normal life” in California is disturbing.
This means that teens may be getting vaccinated for the wrong reasons. Their choice may not be driven by research and logic, but by a desire to fit in. Through COVID hysteria, we’ve fostered fear-driven communities that prioritize the vaccinated and discriminate against the unvaccinated, leading many to feel pressured into receiving the vaccine even without mandates. It’s likely that children are also feeling this societal pressure and might opt for the vaccine despite their parents’ dissent.
Regardless of their reasoning, minors don’t yet have the knowledge or maturity to make a healthcare decision as important as receiving a vaccine. Only parents have the judgment necessary to make that decision.
Further, if children are allowed the autonomy to make the important decision of receiving a vaccine without parental consent, where does their independence end? Where do we draw the line between the parent’s jurisdiction and the child’s?
In the best interest of children, we must always defer to parents and avoid this slippery slope.
Most importantly, parents have every right to be informed that their child wants to receive a vaccine and to object. Parents are primarily responsible for the health and well-being of their children, and their right to make important decisions for their children is essential to the well-being of the family and society at large. Without parents rights, the family unit, which is the foundation of society, will certainly crumble.
The Teens Choose Vaccines Act is the latest attack on parental rights in California. It is a ploy to undermine parents. We must make it clear to our representatives that we will not tolerate it. Please contact your state legislators and urge them to oppose this bill.
