¡Que Coman Helado!

La Congresista Nancy Pelosi disfruta un helado desde su mansion millonaria mientras millones
de estadounidenses se forman en linea en los bancos de comida para alimentar a sus familias.

“Que coman pasteles”fue la respuesta de la reina cuando le dijeron que sus subditos hambrientos no tenían pan. Esta es la cita más famosa atribuida a Maria Antonieta, la reina de Francia durante la Revolución Francesa (Enciclopedia Britannica).
La semana pasada la Presidenta de la Cámara de Representantes Nancy Pelosi (D), estuvo como invitada en el programa de James Corden The Late Night Show, donde se presentó para la entrevista frente a su costoso refrigerador/congelador estimado en aproximadamente $24,000 y mostró su congelador lleno de helado gourmet valorado en más de $10 el medio litro.
Durante la entrevista, Pelosi dijo: “acabamos de reabastecer los helados justo para el Domingo de Pascua, porque estábamos… decimos… ah.. disfrutando… No sé lo que habría hecho si no se hubiera inventado el helado.” Su vacilación en medio del comentario hizo que la gente se preguntara si al decir “nosotros” se refería sólo a ella y a su esposo, o si pasó la Pascua con sus hijos y nietos, mientras que a la mayoría de los abuelos en toda la nación y en todo el mundo no se les permite visitar a sus nietos debido a los riesgos para la salud.
La Congresista de 80 años no se detuvo allí. El 19 de abril comenzó a circular en Twitter un anuncio pagado por Nancy Pelosi para el Congreso pidiendo al pueblo estadounidense que apoyara su campaña cooperando con $10 antes de la medianoche.
De acuerdo a Facts Matter Pelosi ha recaudado $8,316,866.76 en fondos de campaña para el ciclo de reelección 2019-2020. El hecho de que muchas familias estadounidenses estén teniendo que depender de bancos de alimentos para llevar la comida a la mesa ya que la cuarentena ha obligado a millones de personas a dejar de trabajar, y los bancos de alimentos están empezando a enfrentar una escasez de alimentos también, nos hace pensar en tres escenarios posibles: 1. Nancy Pelosi está fuera de contacto con la realidad , 2. Su edad la está alcanzando y definitivamente es senil, por lo tanto, no tiene ningún sentido en absoluto, o 3. No le importan los millones de personas que sufren.
De cualquier manera, este sería el momento perfecto para pensar en los “límites de plazo” en el Congreso, y para empezar a hacer que todos nuestros representantes sean públicamente responsables.

Last week Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D), was a guest at James Corden’s The Late Night Show, where she stood for the interview in front of her expensive paired refrigerator/freezer estimated in approximately $24,000, and showed her freezer filled with gourmet ice cream valued at over $10 a pint.
During the interview, Pelosi said “we just got a re stock the ice cream right for Easter Sunday, because we were…we say…uh, enjoying…I don’t know what I would have done if ice cream were not invented.” Her hesitation in the middle of the comment made people question if by “we” she meant only her and her husband, or if she spent Easter with her children and grandchildren while most grandparents throughout the nation and throughout the world are not allowed to visit their grandchildren because of the health risks.
The 80-year-old Congress woman did not stop there. On April 19, an ad paid for by Nancy Pelosi for Congress started circulating on Twitter, with Pelosi asking the American people to support her campaign by pitching in $10 before midnight.
According to Facts Matter she has raised $8,316,866.76 in campaign funds for the 2019-2020 reelection cycle. The fact that many American families are having to rely on food banks in order to bring food to the table since the quarantine has forced millions of people to stop working, and food banks are starting to face a shortage in food too, makes us think about three possible scenarios here: 1. Nancy Pelosi is way out of touch with reality, 2. Her age is catching up to her and she’s definitely senile hence not making any sense at all, or 3. She just doesn’t care about the millions of people suffering.
Either way, this would be the perfect time to think about “term-limits” in Congress, and to start making all our representatives publicly accountable.
