September 8th, 2010 marked the date when the Palm Desert Post Office was officially named in honor of former Riverside County Supervisor Roy Wilson.
The honor requires congressional approval and Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack was present at the dedication to bestow the honors. Present to acknowledge the dedication was Aurora Wilson, Roy’s widow and Roy Wilson’s son, Scott.
Dallas Keck, District Manager for the United States Postal Service performed the welcome and the Herman Granados American Legion Post number 739 presented the colors. Other dignitaries present included Palm Desert Mayor Cindy Finerty, Assemblyman Brian Nestande and County Supervisor John Benoit.
Throughout the ceremony, there was a mix of satisfaction in recollections of a humble, dedicated tireless civil servant and some misty eyes from recollections of a trusted, dear friend.
The post office is known as the Portola Station and is located at 45300 Portola Avenue, Palm Desert, California. Photo by Juan Vasquez of Aurora Wilson, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack and Scott Wilson.
