Mary Bono Mack Only Clear Choice for Latinos
Latinos who do not know the reality of politics are in agony over the fact I do not consider another Latino as the best choice to represent our community. It has taken a long time to address an issue which should have come out early in the political campaign but, I wanted to make certain my perceptions were correct. Five days before the election, it is conclusive, our current Latino representatives have taken Latinos for granted.
In the Coachella Valley, you have two Latino candidates vying for office, an assemblyman by the name of Perez and a congressional candidate named Dr. Ruiz. Here are the stats, Latinos represent 51.5% of the Coachella Valley population and Latinos generate $2 Billion dollars of the Coachella Valley economy; A respectable amount for such a relatively enclosed valley, certainly worthy of representation. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce-Coachella Valley represents the 2 Billion dollar business constituency and La Prensa Hispana, the only bilingual newspaper in the Coachella Valley gives true and relevant information to the 180,000 residents within Latino communities. The International Hispanic Awards and the International Hispanic Film Festival, first class events are designed to give Latinos a respectable image away from the negative images many outsiders have of the Hispanic/Latino communities.
Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack has met with, communicated on a regular basis with and has personally attended and supported all of these entities since 1998.
Candidate for re-election Perez, has not communicated, visited or made any effort whatsoever to address Hispanic Chamber of Commerce-Coachella Valley Latino business constituents since 2008.
Neither Perez nor Ruiz have addressed the Latino business community, have never visited or met with the editorial board of La Prensa Hispana, a 23 year old publication, have never met with or addressed the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce-Coachella Valley, have never attended any of the 13 International Hispanic awards held here in the Coachella Valley and have never attended any of the 14 International Hispanic Film Festivals held here in the Coachella Valley.
Perez supports candidate Ruiz and wants to see him in office following the lead of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. Think what you may of Nancy or Harry, both of them conspired to block any immigration bill when they had all the numbers to pass a bill. Neither supported Latino efforts for immigration reform which has led to over 1 million deportations, many of these young mothers and fathers who had to leave their children in federal custody. These 15,000 children are now in foster homes across the United States. Why should Latinos elect representatives who cherish the thought of working under them?
La Prensa Hispana and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce-Coachella Valley are keenly aware of the absence of Perez and Ruiz and suggest to Latinos, we have no need for representatives who are absent in the community and believe taxation is the only solution to government overspending. Their insistence Congresswoman Bono Mack has been absent from the Latino community is laughable considering the fact neither Perez nor Ruiz have been present since 2008.
Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack has supported the Latino community since 1998. We can attest to that fact, she has met with the Hispanic Chamber, she has met with the La Prensa Hispana editorial board, she has attended both the Hispanic Awards and the Hispanic Film Festival and she has an open door to all of our concerns. There is no choice; California Hispanic Media, Inc., the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce-Coachella Valley Board, and the steering committee of both the International Hispanic Awards and the International Hispanic Film Festival unanimously endorse Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack for re-election. We further endorse Corky Emmett for the State Assembly.
