“Lo que se Quiere, se Puede lograr con Determinación y Persistencia”

Así comencé una conversación con una líder local emergente que se desarrolla empoderando a otros a que crean su propia historia. Su nombre es Edna Barragán Santos. Edna es oriunda del estado de Oaxaca, México. Desde su arribo a los Estados Unidos, específicamente a El Valle de Coachella, Edna se ha dedicado a prepararse. Sus antecedentes pedagógicos aplican a su deseo de trabajar en su segunda carrera de Educación Temprana después de haber terminado todos los niveles de inglés como segunda lengua.
Su trayectoria en educación está arraigada en mentoría y liderazgo, Edna es miembro activa de los comités de Asesoría para Padres de Aprendices de Inglés (ELAC), y del comité del Distrito de Asesoría para Aprendices de Inglés (DELAC) en el Distrito Escolar de Desert Sands. Su labor como presidenta y vicepresidenta [respectivamente] crean una ruta viable para aprender, conocer, preguntar, y compartir información crucial sobre como los padres pueden ser partícipes de la educación de sus hijos mientras navegan el sistema interno y aprenden sobre los servicios, apoyo, y recursos que están inactivos hasta que sus voces los exigen.
Su trayectoria en servicios comunitarios, abogacía y participación de padres en la escuela son sus metas y prácticas motivacionales e informativas. Edna imparte sus conocimientos a través de talleres, reuniones, y presentaciones amplificando el enfoque de remover barreras, tales como el “yo no hablo inglés,” o “no tengo tiempo,” que crean una limitación entre escuela-familia, necesidad-acción, y maestro-estudiantes.
Trabajar en equipo, ser solidaria, tener empatía, seguir aprendiendo, ser unidos, crear impacto comunitario y tener una visión clara de a donde se quiere llegar son factores primordiales de perseverancia para Edna.

Thus began a conversation with an emerging local leader who thrives by empowering others to create their own story. Her name is Edna Barragán Santos. Edna is from the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Since her arrival in the United States, specifically the Coachella Valley, Edna has dedicated herself to preparing. Her pedagogical background applies to her desire to work on her second career in Early Childhood Education after having completed all levels of English as a Second Language.
Her background in education is rooted in mentoring and leadership, Edna is an active member of the English Learner Parent Advisory committees (ELAC), and the District English Learner Advisory committee (DELAC) in the Desert Sands School District. Her work as President and Vice President [respectively] creates a viable route to learn, meet, ask, and share crucial information about how parents can be involved in their children’s education as they navigate the internal system and learn about services, support, and resources that are idle until their voices demand them.
Her background in community service, advocacy, and parental involvement in the school are her motivational and informational goals and practices. Edna imparts her knowledge through workshops, meetings, and presentations amplifying the focus of removing barriers, such as “I don’t speak English,” or “I don’t have time,” that create a boundary between school-family, need- action, and teacher-students.
Working as a team, being supportive, having empathy, continuing to learn, being united, creating community impact and having a clear vision of where you want to go are key factors of perseverance for Edna.
