Invisible Threads Make Our flag

Blended into the fabric of today’s world, there are threads we do not see. They posses colors and purpose which make us who we are. These threads give us strength, and provide the core stability we have as a nation. As citizens, we are reflections of ideals not clearly understood by those who only see fabric instead of the invincibility it represents. When we pledge allegiance to the flag our pledge is meant for the sustainment of the principles we behold.
The current uprising among major universities including the University of California campuses to prohibit the flying of the American flag denotes an ignorance not expected from minds in preparation to be our future leaders. Mind lazy students have been bitten by the bug of manipulated and contrived perception. A perception which invalidates any truth and good we have accomplished as a nation. It instead focuses on the growing pains, bruises, lessons learned and chaos bestowed on us by the same bug which has infested their minds. As a still relatively young nation, we have made advances unknown in past civilizations. The tenure of past empires, dynasties or civilizations was measured in millenniums, thousands of years, while we, the United States, are less than three centuries old.
We are witnessing a choir, a wind symphony of collective ignorance. We are deprived of showing respect for our national symbol of freedom, our flag, with biases and negative perceptions perpetrated by groups and confused individuals. Individuals who have never found value in understanding, the very same flag they are invalidating is the symbol of their own personal freedoms. The very same individual freedoms they use to destroy the symbol. As contrived and confusing as it is, we are being forced to digest this pill of ignorance from our institutions of higher learning. Institutions we the taxpayers fund and support.
As a nation we should display gratitude of where we are, where we have arrived and not obstinate on where we have been. The rough roads we have traversed as the United States of America have led us to our present enlightenment and understanding of human value. We are in fact imperfect and impermanent human beings in an ever-evolving universe. The nation is a reflection of who we are. The day will arrive when we will cease to be. Perhaps the uproar and intent to destroy our current symbol of freedom is derived from the misperceptions of respect and admiration we have. You can have respect for a rattlesnake with a total absence of admiration. In turn, we respect our flag for what it represents in ideals and admire it as a tribute to the millions of lives who have fought and died to protect these red, white and blue threads. Our protective emotions emanate from these thoughts.
Disconnecting from the symbolism for good and attacking the perception of past evils bespeaks more of the lack of understanding of self and nation than a genuine regard for truth.
Students and faculty who condone this rudimentary attitude of attacking the threads to demean us as a nation have a total lack of comprehension of being an American. Being an American far exceeds locality or pushpin on an international map. Being an American connotes being at one with our maker, finding peace and solace in pursuing our dreams and understanding we have inalienable rights, which must be protected. The flag symbolizes these truths not those contrived by myopic individuals more concerned with making political statements. We have all heard the refrain, “ America, love it or leave it”, it is time to be accountable for what we believe in and defend those threads of red, white and blue.
Each star on our flag represents a state, be it territory or mindset; they join together to become the totality of who we are, regardless of past pains as a nation. Those who use the freedoms earned for us under the banner of the U.S. Flag to demean, impugn or sully the symbol believe we are despondent over their banning of threads. We are despondent over the idiocy, the perverted mindset of those destined to guide our next generation into the future. Your opposition to our flag does more than show who you are, it allows us to find who we are. You can ban our flag, stomp on its threads but you can never defeat our resolve to advocate for freedom, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
