Indio Police Chief Brad Ramos Stays Connected to the Community

Indio Police Chief Brad Ramos stopped by the La Prensa Hispana office this week for an informal chat about issues and how the city is addressing crime. There was no question the City of Indio has dramatically improved the statistics that has seen a renewed respect for the Indio Police Department. While the numbers do reflect improvements, of greater importance for the community is the coming together of the city. The discussion centered on approach and consistency rather than a string of numbers.

Indio has developed into one of the fastest growing cities in Riverside County and along with growth and a hike of 37.3 percent in employment opportunities, there is also a corresponding increase in a need for law enforcement. Chief Ramos has often been cited for doing an excellent job for the community.

Indio is now ranked as 12th out of the 25 fastest growing cities in the nation. This is no small achievement yet movement and growth has not been a major inconvenience for residents. Construction has been centered in the new growth areas on the north end of I-10 along with major improvements of streets and infrastructure in the familiar parts of Indio. A great burst of retail shopping is in process and will become evident by 2008-2009.

Indio Police Chief Brad Ramos along with long time civic leader and Mayor Ben Godfrey are nominees for the 12 Annual International Hispanic Awards to be held in early 2008. Indio has a Hispanic population of 75 percent and both Ramos and Godfrey have been very mindful to the needs relevant to cultural activities in past years. Chief Ramos is quick to give kudos to City Manager Glenn Southard and his staff.
