Hacia Dios por la ciencia

Desde el surgimiento del llamado “nuevo ateísmo” y de sus cuatro jinetes (Harris, Dawkins, Dennett y Hitchens), una avalancha mediática ha querido imponernos la idea de que toda creencia en una inteligencia superior es irracional y anticientífica. Pero un tsunami mucho mayor se está levantando para desmentirlo. Ya en abril de 1980 el Time anunciaba: «[Hay] una revolución silenciosa, Dios está retornando en los selectos círculos intelectuales de los filósofos académicos».
No sólo científicos “antiguos” como Copérnico, Bacon, Galileo, Kepler, Pascal, Newton, Leibniz, Linneo, Faraday, Pasteur, etc. armonizan sin problemas la fe con la ciencia, sino que los científicos de hoy lo hacen también y hasta con mayor convicción.
Allan Sandage, por ejemplo, el más grande cosmólogo del mundo, declaró públicamente en 1976 que había decidido hacerse cristiano a los cincuenta años. Su ejemplo influyó en tantos científicos que Newsweek publicó un artículo titulado: “La ciencia encuentra a Dios” (20.07.1998).
Fue también en 1976 que el biofísico Dean Kenyon ―luego de escribir un libro sobre el surgimiento “espontáneo” de la vida―, negó sus propias conclusiones declarando creer ahora que «la mejor evidencia apunta hacia un diseñador de la vida».
Otro que ha pasado del ateísmo a la fe es el genetista Francis S. Collins, líder del Proyecto Genoma Humano. Ahora afirma que «uno puede ser creyente sobre una base racional y es probable que el ateísmo sea la opción menos racional de todas». En 2006 publicó su libro “Cómo habla Dios. La evidencia científica de la fe”.
Pero uno de los cambios más dramáticos fue el del filósofo Antony Flew, “el máximo referente del ateísmo filosófico”. Flew, después de medio siglo de negación declaró: «El razonamiento me ha llevado a aceptar la existencia de un Ser autoexistente, inmutable, inmaterial, omnipotente y omnisciente». Su libro “Dios existe” (2007) fue toda una revolución.
Los nombres y testimonios ahora se multiplican: John C. Lennox “¿Ha enterrado la ciencia a Dios?” (2009), Ariel A. Roth “La ciencia descubre a Dios” (2009), Josué Ferrer “Por qué deje de ser ateo” (2009), Allan Chapman “Matando a los dragones” (2013), Amir D. Aczel “Por qué la ciencia no refuta a Dios” (2014), Antonio Cruz “A Dios por el ADN” (2017), entre otros.
Un Creador no es incompatible con la ciencia. Todo lo contrario. Una reflexión objetiva sobre las evidencias actuales apunta, cada vez más, a que podemos llegar a la fe por el camino de la ciencia.

But a much bigger tsunami is rising to deny it. Already in April 1980 Time announced: “[There is] a silent revolution, God is returning in the select intellectual circles of academic philosophers.”
Not only “ancient” scientists like Copernicus, Bacon, Galileo, Kepler, Pascal, Newton, Leibniz, Linnaeus, Faraday, Pasteur, etc. They harmonize faith with science without problems, but today’s scientists do so with even greater conviction.
Allan Sandage, for example, the world’s greatest cosmologist, publicly stated in 1976 that he had decided to become a Christian at the age of fifty. His example influenced so many scientists that Newsweek published an article titled “Science Finds God” (07/20/1998).
It was also in 1976 that biophysicist Dean Kenyon – after writing a book on the “spontaneous” emergence of life – denied his own conclusions, stating now that he believes that “the best evidence points to a designer of life.”
Another who has gone from atheism to faith is geneticist Francis S. Collins, leader of the Human Genome Project. Now he claims that “one can be a believer on a rational basis and atheism is probably the least rational choice of all.” In 2006 he published his book “How God speaks. The scientific evidence of faith.”
But one of the most dramatic changes was that of the philosopher Antony Flew, “the maximum referent of philosophical atheism.” Flew, after half a century of denial declared: “Reasoning has led me to accept the existence of a self-existing, immutable, immaterial, omnipotent and omniscient Being.” His book “God exists” (2007) was a revolution.
Names and testimonies now multiply: John C. Lennox “Has Science Buried God?” (2009), Ariel A. Roth “Science discovers God” (2009), Josué Ferrer “Why stop being an atheist” (2009), Allan Chapman “Slaying the dragons” (2013), Amir D. Aczel “ Why science does not refute God ”(2014), Antonio Cruz“ To God through DNA ”(2017), among others.
A Creator is not incompatible with science. On the contrary. An objective reflection on current evidence increasingly points to the fact that we can come to faith through the path of science.
