Foundations

At this point in the 21st century it is clear that the world has run out of foundations, without a rock from which to build its future. All philosophical hunger for a unified and transcendent vision of the cosmos has long since ceased. Today’s man, knowing it or not, has renounced the truth that he once set him free and lost the spring of eternity in which his soul bathed.
In 1882, when Nietzsche wrote “God is dead” in Gay Science, this was hardly a dark omen, a reactive cry in the face of his personal religious crisis. But today, the absence of foundation is a certainty that does not seem to matter to many.
We spend our years in an unsuccessful search for total freedom, self-satisfaction, and fleeting pleasures, hoping that they will lead us somewhere, that they will make sense of us. But hedonism only leads to emptiness, and emptiness only leads to loneliness. The world without foundation did not turn out to be what he promised. There is no new society, no new man. He began by isolating us from the absolutes and ended by isolating us from others and from ourselves.
What is reality now? Where do we start to define it while we witness the demise of Western foundations? Everything indicates that we have been abandoned in a post-contemporary Darwinian jungle where the strongest creates his relative self-foundation and imposes it on others. Having rejected the Judeo-Christian God, the world now bows its knees to many little human gods who seek to “direct evolution.”
Since there is no foundation, everything has returned to the beginning. Space and time are restarting, the world is being re-founded in a new order. But now, on human categories, weak and relative, directed by the instinctive whim of subjectivity. They will impose new principles on us, but only temporarily, until others will impose theirs … and then others come to change them again. Wanting to be free we end up more slaves than ever.
For this reason, many begin to miss the unshakable truth that sustained the world, and the values that gave it real meaning. Only the danger in which the absence of an absolute basis for human dignity puts us makes us understand what we have left behind.
The question is will we stubbornly continue to cling to the collapse of our foundations, or will we turn our eyes to escape this endless vicious cycle?
