Why: Vehicle crashes are the No.1 killer of teenagers in America, and nearly 7,000 die each year from them. In 2006, 560 California residents between ages of 16 and 20 died in such collisions according to the most recent data from the California Highway Patrol.

Because of figures like these, Ford Motor Company Fund, the Governors Highway Safety Association and a panel of safety experts developed Driving Skills for Life. This comprehensive program focuses on teaching skills necessary for safe driving and often not fully understood by new drivers.
