Ese viernes

Han pasado tantos viernes, pero ese nunca pasará. Aquel día todos estaban paralizados por el miedo mientras las fuerzas del mal se regocijaban al ver que su plan estaba por cumplirse: iban a matarlo. Casi nadie parecía darse cuenta de que era exactamente al revés. Otro plan era el que se cumpliría, tal como estaba escrito.
Él se lo había advertido una y otra vez a los suyos, pero parecían estar ciegos. Tres días antes, se los dijo con toda claridad: “El Hijo del Hombre será entregado para ser crucificado” (Mt. 26:2). Una vez más, no entendieron. Volvió a reafirmarlo sólo unas horas antes en la cena: “Esto es mi cuerpo, que por vosotros es dado” (Lc. 22:19) y un momento después añadió: “El Hijo del Hombre va, según lo que está determinado” (Lc. 22:22). Nadie se perturbó.
Durante el malvado juicio, Él dejó claro quién tenía el control. “Ninguna autoridad tendrías contra mí, si no te fuese dada de arriba” (Jn. 19:11). Y ante el Concilio fue más claro aún: “Desde ahora el Hijo del Hombre se sentará a la diestra del poder de Dios” (Lc. 22:69). Sus enemigos entendieron menos aún, embriagados como estaban por el virus de su maligna misión.
Estando en la cruz, dejó ver la autoridad que nunca había perdido: “De cierto te digo que hoy estarás conmigo en el paraíso” (Lc. 23:43). Y antes de expirar lanzó su grito de victoria: “Consumado es” (Jn. 19:30).
No era la agenda del mal la que se había cumplido, era otro plan cuidadosamente diseñado desde el principio: “Ésta te herirá en la cabeza, y tú le herirás en el calcañar” (Gn. 3:15). El mal había sufrido su mayor derrota, en su misma cabeza.
Tres días después todo se hizo evidente: Él resucitó (Lc. 24). La vida venció a la muerte y las buenas noticias se esparcieron por todo el mundo.
Aunque parezca lo contrario, este plan eterno aún sigue cumpliéndose hoy, llamando a los hombres a la verdad y a la luz, hasta que llegue el día final. “Cuando estas cosas comiencen a suceder, erguíos y levantad vuestra cabeza, porque vuestra redención está cerca” (Lc. 21:28). Él prometió venir por segunda vez.
No es hora, entonces, de lamentar. Es hora de velar, de mantenerse firmes. Si su plan se cumplió al pie de la letra hasta hoy ¿acaso no se cumplirá todo lo que prometió ese viernes?

 

That Friday

So many Fridays have passed, but that one will never happen. That day everyone was paralyzed with fear while the forces of evil rejoiced to see that their plan was about to be fulfilled: they were going to kill him. Hardly anyone seemed to realize that it was exactly the other way around. Another plan was the one that would be fulfilled, just as it was written.
He had warned his people over and over again, but they seemed to be blind. Three days before, he had told them clearly: “The Son of Man will be betrayed to be crucified” (Mt. 26: 2). Once again, they did not understand. He reaffirmed it only a few hours before at dinner: “This is my body, which is given for you” (Lk. 22:19) and a moment later added: “The Son of Man goes, according to what is determined” (Luke 22:22). Nobody was disturbed.
During the wicked trial, He made it clear who was in control. “You would have no authority against me unless it was given to you from above” (Jn. 19:11). And before the Council it was even clearer: “From now on the Son of Man will sit at the right hand of the power of God” (Lk. 22:69). His enemies understood even less, intoxicated as they were by the virus of his evil mission.
While on the cross, he revealed the authority that he had never lost: “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Lk 23:43). And before he expired, he cried out his victory cry: “It is finished” (Jn. 19:30).
It was not the evil agenda that had been fulfilled, it was another carefully designed plan from the beginning: “This one will strike you on the head, and you will strike him on the heel” (Gen. 3:15). Evil had suffered the greatest defeat of him, in his own head.
Three days later everything became clear: He rose again (Lk. 24). Life conquered death and the good news spread throughout the world.
Although it may seem otherwise, this eternal plan is still being fulfilled today, calling men to the truth and to the light, until the final day arrives. “When these things begin to happen, stand tall and lift up your heads, for your redemption is near” (Lk. 21:28). He promised to come a second time.
It is not time, then, to regret. It is time to watch, to stand firm. If his plan was fulfilled to the letter until today, will not everything he promised that Friday be fulfilled?
