SunLine Transit Agency’s 5th Annual “Fill the Bus” Holiday Food Drive November 17th
Thousand Palms, CA
SunLine Transit Agency’s 5th Annual “Fill the Bus” Holiday Food Drive to help families in need and feed the homeless during the holidays takes place Thursday, November 17th, from 7 AM to 5 PM. This year three community organizations will be the recipients of the program: The Coachella Valley Rescue Mission located in Indio, The Galilee Center located in Coachella and The Soup Kitchen located in Desert Hot Springs. All of these organizations are supported by the continued generosity of Coachella Valley residents.
SunLine will park its state-of-the-art, alternative-fueled buses at four grocery store locations across the Coachella Valley, inviting local citizens and shoppers to come out and fill each vehicle with donated, non-perishable items. The 40-foot buses can accommodate packaged items of any size or shape. In addition to dry and canned goods, frozen meats and other assorted trimmings, SunLine is asking local residents to also donate new packaged toiletries, personal hygiene products, diapers and other household products to help those in need. Checks and money orders are also gratefully accepted. SunLine management, staff, and volunteers from the recipient organization will be onsite to greet donors, assist with drop-offs and thank the community for their generosity. The Coachella Valley Rescue Mission located in Indio is a safe haven and a place of refuge for the homeless, abused, addicted, and needy where physical, spiritual and developmental needs are met. The Mission feeds and cares for over 100 people per day with a demand for more people and families than ever before. Galilee Center located in Coachella provides compassionate services to the less-fortunate families living in poverty in the Eastern Coachella Valley. Galilee Center’s mission is to fulfill the needs of the underprivileged and disadvantaged by providing food, clothing, and other basic needs and to affirm their dignity with love, compassion and respect. They are committed to making a difference in the lives of those families who are unemployed or going through crisis in their lives by alleviating the immediate needs and help them to move towards self-sufficiency. The Soup Kitchen located in Desert Hot Springs is an all volunteer organization supported by the generosity of Coachella Valley residents and organizations whose mission is to provide balanced, healthy hot meals, food distribution, clothing, furnishings and bring a wide range of medical and social services to homeless, underprivileged citizens who live in the area.
