El “Plan California” de Joe Biden

Un titular del LA Times de hoy dice: “¿Hacer que Estados Unidos vuelva a ser California? Ese es el plan de Biden.” Asimismo, el asesor económico principal de Gavin Newsom tiene un nuevo artículo en Project Syndicate elogiando a California como el modelo que “señala el camino a seguir” para la nación.
El artículo no menciona que tenemos el mayor índice de pobreza y la mayor cantidad de personas sin hogar del país. No menciona que tenemos las segundas peores escuelas y carreteras. No menciona que más de la mitad de nuestros residentes dicen que están pensando en irse y que casi dos tercios dicen que el Sueño Americano está muerto. Pero ese, aparentemente, es el “camino a seguir.”
Este esfuerzo por nacionalizar el fracaso catastrófico hace que nuestra tarea como oposición de California sea doblemente importante: detener el declive de nuestro propio estado y advertir al resto de la nación. Ya hicimos esto una vez, ayudando a evitar que Biden nombrara un Secretario de Educación rabiosamente opuesto a la elección escolar (School Choice).
Como bien sabemos, California no muestra las posibilidades de un gobierno “progresista,” sino los peligros de un gobierno corrupto. Y nadie ha personificado esa corrupción como Gavin Newsom. Es por eso que vemos a los ciudadanos unirse para luchar como nunca antes:
El viernes pasado, participé en una de las más de 100 manifestaciones en todo el estado con atletas de secundaria que protestaban por la monstruosa prohibición de Newsom sobre los deportes juveniles. El grupo de Facebook ‘Let Them Play’ ha crecido a 34,000 miembros en solo dos semanas.
Otro condado, esta vez Shasta, aprobó nuestra Resolución de Comunidades Saludables, rechazando la regla de un solo hombre de Newsom y los encierros no científicos.
Nuestra victoria judicial sobre Newsom, que Phil Willon del LA Times llamó “uno de los mayores controles sobre la autoridad ejecutiva del gobernador de California en tiempos de emergencias estatales”, aún está a la espera de una decisión del Tribunal de Apelación, pero se han presentado varias demandas más en las últimas semanas.
Y luego está el recall o democión del gobernador, ahora 1,1 millones de firmas fuertes. Más que cualquier otra cosa, su éxito sonará una advertencia sonora: que California es un estado fallido, y el resto del país debe prestar atención antes de dar bandazos por nuestro camino. Como beneficio adicional, evitará que Newsom intente llevar al país por ese camino él mismo, anulando sus vanas esperanzas presidenciales de una vez por todas.
Esta es una responsabilidad única en su tipo y una oportunidad única en una generación. Para todos los que trabajan tan duro para reunir firmas, usted es un participante activo en la historia. Preocupados por nuestro estado y por el amor a nuestro país, estamos dando plena expresión a esa frase eterna de la Declaración de Independencia: el consentimiento de los gobernados.

Biden’s “California Plan”

A headline in the LA Times today reads: “Make America California Again? That’s Biden’s plan.” Likewise, Gavin Newsom’s chief economic advisor has a new article in Project Syndicate hailing California as a model that “points the way forward” for the nation.
The article does not mention that we have the nation’s highest poverty and most homelessness. It doesn’t mention we have the second worst schools and roads. It doesn’t mention that over half our residents say they’re thinking of leaving and that nearly two-thirds say the American Dream is dead.
But that, apparently, is the “way forward.”
This effort to nationalize catastrophic failure makes our task as the California opposition doubly important: to stop our own state’s decline and to warn the rest of the nation. We’ve done this once already, helping prevent Biden from naming a rabidly anti-school-choice Education Secretary.
As we know all too well, California showcases not the possibilities of a “progressive” government but the perils of a corrupt government. And no one has ever epitomized that corruption like Gavin Newsom. That’s why we see citizens coming together to fight back like never before:
Last Friday, I took part in one of over 100 rallies across the state with high school athletes protesting Newsom’s monstrous ban on youth sports. The Let Them Play Facebook group has grown to 34,000 members in just two weeks.
Another county, this time Shasta, has passed our Healthy Communities Resolution, rejecting Newsom’s one-man rule and unscientific lockdowns. Our court victory over Newsom, which Phil Willon of the LA Times called “one of the biggest checks on the California governor’s executive authority in times of state emergencies,” is still awaiting a decision by the Court of Appeal, but several more lawsuits have been filed in recent weeks.
And then there’s the Recall, now 1.1 million signatures strong. More than anything else, its success will sound a blaring warning: that California is a failed state, and the rest of the country should take heed before lurching down our path. As a bonus, it will stop Newsom from ever trying to take the country down that path himself, quashing his vain presidential hopes once and for all.
This is a one-of-a-kind responsibility and a once-in-a-generation opportunity. For everyone working so hard to gather signatures, you are an active participant in history. Out of concern for our state and love for our country, we’re giving full expression to that timeless phrase from the Declaration of Independence: the consent of the governed.
