El Gobernador Gavin Newsom amenaza con aplicar “Presión Social” a las Iglesias que decidan permanecer abiertas

La semana pasada al gobernador Gavin Newsom se le hizo la siguiente pregunta: “¿tiene algún mensaje para los líderes religiosos que argumentan que los servicios que brindan son esenciales?” a lo que respondió: “Bueno, con el debido respeto, es esencial que practiquemos el distanciamiento físico en todas partes … Recomiendo encarecidamente a cualquiera que no esté practicando la distancia física que reconsidere y, en la medida en que se niegue, aplicaremos” Presión social “y en la medida de lo posible, avanzaremos en la aplicación adicional.”
No aclaró a qué se refería con la aplicación de “presión social”, pero el secretario de Estado Mike Pompeo iba a ser orador en una iglesia en Chino Hills el sábado 25 de julio, pero aparentemente la oficina de Newsom lo contactó y le impidió asistir al servicio previamente programado de iglesia.
Otros estados han visto incendiar iglesias y grupos de Black Lives Matter han atacado y hostigado a las congregaciones. ¿Podría ser eso lo que quiso decir el gobernador Newsom al decir que aplicaría “presión social”? ¿Serán hostigadas, amenazadas y perseguidas las iglesias por ejercer sus Derechos de Primera Enmienda?
La gente habla de la separación de la iglesia y el Estado pensando que está en la Constitución A2…
cuando no lo está. De hecho, vino de una carta que Thomas Jefferson escribió a la asociación Bautista de Danbury donde declaró que cuando el pueblo estadounidense adoptó la cláusula de establecimiento, construyeron un “muro de separación entre la iglesia y el estado”. ¿Qué significa eso exactamente? Creo que Ronald Reagan lo expresó perfectamente en 1982 ante la Legislatura de Alabama cuando dijo: “A los que citan la Primera Enmienda como razón para excluir a Dios más y más de nuestras instituciones y de la vida cotidiana, puedo decir: La Primera Enmienda de la Constitución no fue escrita para proteger a la gente de este país de los valores religiosos; fue escrita para proteger los valores religiosos de la tiranía del gobierno.”
El gobernador Newsom ha elogiado repetidamente a los manifestantes, incluso cuando han atacado a las fuerzas del orden público y destruido propiedades privadas y de la ciudad. Los ha llamado “una vista inspiradora” y los ha alentado a continuar ejerciendo sus Derechos de Primera Enmienda.
Los californianos han visto protestas con miles de personas que no usan máscaras ni distanciamiento social entre sí, pero de repente son las iglesias, los restaurantes y las pequeñas empresas las responsables del aumento en el número de casos. A pesar de que han estado siguiendo protocolos y pautas de salud al pie de la letra.
El pastor John MacArthur se dirigió a los pastores en una carta abierta la semana pasada desafiando a la iglesia a recordar que Cristo es la cabeza de la iglesia; y advirtiéndoles que “los principales eventos públicos que se planificaron para 2021 ya se están cancelando, lo que indica que los funcionarios se están preparando para mantener las restricciones vigentes para el próximo año y más allá.”

Last week governor Gavin Newsom was asked the following question: “do you have any message for religious leaders who argue that the services they provide are essential?” to which he responded: “Well, with all due respect it’s essential that we practice physical distancing everywhere….I highly encourage anyone that is not practicing physical distance to reconsider and to the extent that they refuse, we will apply “Social Pressure” and to the extent possible we will advance additional enforcement.”
He did not clarify what he meant by applying “social pressure,” but Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was set to be a speaker at a church in Chino Hills on Saturday July 25th, but apparently Newsom’s office contacted him and prevented him from attending such scheduled church service.
Other states have seen churches burned down and congregants have been attacked and harassed by Black Lives Matter groups. Could that be what governor Newsom meant by saying he would apply ‘social pressure’? Will churches be harassed, threatened, and persecuted for exercising their First Amendment Rights?
People talk about the separation of church and State thinking that it is in the Constitution when it isn’t.As a matter of fact, it came from a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to the Danbury Baptist association where he declared that when the American people adopted the establishment clause they built a “wall of separation between the church and state. What exactly does that mean? I think Ronald Reagan put it perfectly in 1982 at the Alabama Legislature when he said: “To those who cite the First Amendment as reason for excluding God from more and more of our institutions and every-day life, may I just say:
The First Amendment of the Constitution was not written to protect the people of this country from religious values; it was written to protect religious values from government tyranny.”
Governor Newsom has repeatedly commended protestors, even when they have attacked law enforcement and destroyed private and city property. He has called them “an inspiring sight” and has encouraged them to continue exercising their First Amendment Rights.
Californians have seen protests with thousands of people not wearing masks nor social distancing from each other, but suddenly it is the churches, the restaurants, and small businesses the ones responsible for the surge in case numbers. Even though they have been following health protocols and guidelines to the T.
Pastor John MacArthur addressed pastors in an Open Letter last week challenging the church to remember that Christ is the Head of the church; and warning them that ” Major public events that were planned for 2021 are already being canceled, signaling that officials are preparing to keep restrictions in place into next year and beyond.”
