The Deceiving Statistic Place Teenagers at a Greater Risk

I have begun to wonder about a phrase I hear over and over again in the media and in meetings; “Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE) has been statistically proven to reduce teen sexual activity.”  During the March 5th meeting at Palm Springs Unified School District, statistics were cited on teen pregnancy and teen sex activity from the mid 2000’s vs now noting a significant drop in both. Do you know what else changed since the mid 2000’s? Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, iPhone and other smart phones, internet gaming, internet porn, chat rooms, texting. Of course instances of teen sex and pregnancy are down since teens are less likely to leave the house today! It seems at best intellectually dishonest to cite statistics from studies that do not control for this incredibly relevant variable. Perhaps some other statistics should be considered; such as, number of instances of Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria before vs after exposure to CSE. Noting that transgender and gender fluid teens are substantially more likely to experience severe psychological distress compared to gender-conforming teens, how can we not see the danger in confusing children with the promotion of this ideology? Here’s another statistic: according to the California Department of Public Health, Sexually Transmitted Diseases have increased at an alarming rate since the 2000’s. “In 2017, the burden of notifiable bacterial STDs in California (chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis) continued to be substantial and increasing when compared against 2016 and the prior five years.” Here are the facts, fewer teens are having sex but instances of STDs have dramatically increased. Could we then conclude that since the introduction of CSE, among those actually leaving the house and interacting with others, they are experimenting more but are less responsible in their sexual behaviors? Recientemente he comenzado a preguntarme acerca de una frase que escucho una y otra vez en los medios y reuniones; “se ha comprobado estadísticamente que la Educación Sexual Integral (CSE) reduce la actividad sexual en los adolescentes.”  Durante la reunión en el Distrito Unificado de Palm Springs el 5 de marzo, se citaron estadísticas sobre embarazo adolescente y actividad sexual a mediados del 2000 vs hoy en día y se notó una baja significativa en ambos. ¿Sabe que más cambio desde mediados del 2000? Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, iPhone y otros teléfonos inteligentes, videojuegos por internet, pornografía en internet, chats, textos. ¡Por supuesto que la incidencia de sexo y embarazo adolescentes bajaron, ya que los adolescentes hoy en día casi no salen de sus casas! Es intelectualmente deshonesto citar estadísticas de estudios que no incluyen esta variable tan increíblemente relevante. Quizá deberían ser consideradas otras estadísticas tales como, número de casos de Disforia de Género de Inicio Rápido antes y después de la exposición a CSE. Cabe notar que los adolescentes transgéneros y de genero fluido son substancialmente más propensos a experimentar angustia psicológico severa, a diferencia de los adolescentes que están conformes con su género; ¿cómo es que no podemos ver el peligro de confundir a los niños si continuamos promoviendo esta ideología? Aquí esta otra estadística: de acuerdo al Departamento de Salud Pública de California, las enfermedades transmitidas sexualmente se han incrementado alarmantemente desde el 2000. En el 2017, el peso de enfermedades sexuales bacterianas que requieren notificación en California (clamidia, gonorrea, and sífilis) continúa siendo substancial y sigue en aumento comparado con el 2016 y los 5 años previos.” Aquí están los hechos; menos adolescentes están teniendo sexo, pero el índice de enfermedades sexuales ha aumentado dramáticamente. ¿Podríamos concluir que desde que la Educación Sexual Integral (CSE) fue introducida, entre los adolescentes que, si salen de su casa e interactúan con otros, estos están experimentando más, pero están siendo más irresponsables en sus comportamientos sexuales?
