“Creo que el Gobernador debe hacer lo correcto y renunciar” -La Senadora Melissa Meléndez pide la renuncia del Gobernador Newsom

Durante un par de entrevistas recientes, la senadora estatal de California Melissa Meléndez respondió al toque de queda de un mes del gobernador Gavin Newsom que requiere que el trabajo no esencial y las reuniones se detengan entre las 10:00 p.m. y las 5:00 a.m. para los condados del nivel púrpura en California.

“Los californianos sentimos que ¿por qué el gobernador puede hacer una cosa y el resto de nosotros tiene que hacer otra? ¿Por qué el gobernador puede ir a fiestas? ¿Por qué se mezcla con personas de más de tres hogares? ¿Por qué el gobernador no lleva máscara? ¿Por qué está haciendo todas estas cosas y luego dictando al resto de nosotros que tenemos que hacer algo completamente diferente? Entonces, creo que va a tener dificultades para lograr que las personas sigan este mandato simplemente porque están siguiendo su ejemplo y si su liderazgo es ‘asumir la responsabilidad personal y considerar por uno mismo si vale la pena correr un riesgo, A2
entonces creo que el resto de California va a hacer lo mismo.”
“El principio de ‘haz lo que digo, no lo que hago’ está en plena exhibición con este edicto no científico. El gobernador ha demostrado que es capaz, como adulto responsable, de tomar la decisión por sí mismo sobre si es seguro asistir a una fiesta de cumpleaños sin máscaras y sin distanciamiento social. Aparentemente, esta orden no nos otorga la misma cortesía y responsabilidad a la gente común.”
“La gente está harta, está harta de eso. Dijeron que este toque de queda es por un mínimo de cuatro semanas, lo que significa que se puede extender. En el condado de Riverside estamos en el nivel morado, pero la cantidad de camas de hospital en uso para COVID y la cantidad de camas de UCI utilizadas para COVID es muy baja, tenemos casi 3,500 camas de hospital y creo que solo tal vez 200 de ellas están ocupadas para COVID, números similares para camas de UCI. Todo el tiempo han estado diciendo “no queremos que nuestros hospitales sean abrumados, lo cual, por supuesto entendemos, pero en los 8 meses no hemos visto que ocurra a pesar de los aumentos repentinos que vimos en el verano. No he visto que eso suceda todavía, y hemos descansado a profesionales médicos, enviados a casa porque hoy no hay trabajo para ellos, dos hospitales en mi distrito no tienen pacientes, así que creo que el gobernador puede estar exagerando.”
Respecto a la reciente publicación de unas fotos del gobernador Newsom asistiendo a una fiesta adentro de un restaurante de lujo llamado The French Laundry, sin máscara ni distanciamiento social, cuando ha pedido que los restaurantes cierren en el interior del comedor y ha establecido pautas estrictas para los comensales familiares de Acción de Gracias, la Senadora Meléndez dijo:
“Dado todo lo que ha sucedido, dados todos los traspiés que ha cometido el gobernador en su mandato, creo que debería hacer lo correcto y renunciar, no creo que esté a la altura, sé que no lo hará, por eso no tenemos otra opción que destituirlo de su cargo para conseguir a alguien más aquí que realmente se tome esto en serio, no podemos tener a alguien que diga una cosa y haga otra, no inspira confianza en los californianos para seguir su ejemplo si el mismo no elige seguir su propio ejemplo.”
En cuanto al gobernador Newsom, se disculpó por haber sido sorprendido en la fiesta diciendo: “somos humanos y todos nos equivocamos.”

“I Think He Should Do the Right Thing and Resign” -Senator Melissa Melendez Calls for Governor Newsom’s Resignation

During a couple of recent interviews, California State Senator Melissa Melendez responded to Governor Gavin Newsom’s month-long curfew requiring non-essential work and gatherings to stop between 10:00 pm and 5:00 am for purple tier counties in California.
Senator Melendez spoke about the recent mandates and the science behind the curfew:
“Doesn’t he know the same individuals with COVID who would be attending said gatherings after 10 p.m. still may have had the virus before the curfew and traveling in public places presumably? This order doesn’t apply to the homeless either, so he doesn’t seem to care about them. So, what does this “limited stay at home order” actually solve? This is nothing more than a penalty box move for us common-sense Californians who are calling him out for his posh, anti-health guidelines lifestyle. Happy Thanksgiving!”
“Californians are feeling like why does the governor get to do one thing and the rest of us have to do something else? Why does the governor get to go to parties? why does he get to mix with people from more than three households? Why is the governor not wearing a mask? Why is he doing all of these things and then dictating to the rest of us that we have to do something completely different? So, I think he is going to have a difficult time getting people to follow this mandate simply because they’re are following his lead and if his lead is to ‘take personal responsibility and consider for yourselves whether is worth to take a risk, then I think the rest of California is going to do the same thing.’ The ‘Do as I say not as I do’ principle is on full display with this unscientific edict. The governor has shown he’s capable, as a responsible adult, to make the decision for himself about whether it’s safe to attend a birthday party without masks and social distancing. Apparently, this order doesn’t grant that same courtesy and responsibility to us common people.”
“People are fed up, they’re tired of it. They said this curfew is for a minimum of four weeks, meaning that it can be extended. In Riverside County we’re in the purple tier, but the number of hospital beds in use for covid and the number of ICU beds used for covid is very low, we have almost 3500 hospital beds and I think only maybe 200 of them are in use for COVID, similar numbers for ICU beds. The whole time they’ve been saying “we don’t want our hospitals to be overran, which of course we understand, but in the 8 months we haven’t seen that take place despite the surges that we saw in the summer we haven’t seen that happen yet, and we’ve had medical professionals being laid off, sent home because there’s no work for them today, two hospital in my district have zero patients, so I think the governor may be overplaying his hand here.
Regarding the recent publication of some pictures of governor Newsom attending a party inside a high end restaurant called The French Laundry, not wearing a mask nor social distancing, when he has called for restaurants to close inside dining and has set strict guidelines for Thanksgiving Family Diners, Senator Melendez said: “Given everything that’s happened, given all of the missteps that the governor has made in his time in office I think he should do the right thing and resign, I don’t think he is up to the task, I know he won’t do that so we have no other choice than to remove him from office to get someone else here who really takes this seriously, you can’t have someone saying one thing and doing another, it doesn’t inspire confidence in Californians to follow his lead if he’s not choosing to follow his own lead.”
As for governor Newsom, he apologized for having been caught at the party by saying: “we’re humans and we all fall short.”
