Coachella Newly Elected Officials Swearing in ceremony held Wednesday night

The Coachella City Council Chambers were full to capacity as new members took the oath of office. The oath was administered by Superior Court Judge, the Honorable Jorge Hernandez. Judge Hernandez was an honorary guest along with Coachella resident and newly elected Assemblyman Manuel Perez who also took an oath of office.

Other given given the oath were new council member Emmanuel Martinez, City Treasurer Stacey Garcia, City Clerk Isabel Castillon, and re-elected council member Gilbert Ramirez. A Special Recognition was awarded to Richard Mackinicki, Council Member Emeritus and Yvonne Gaines, City Treasurer Emeritus. The Master of Ceremonies was Council member Jesse Villarreal.

The Coachella City Council now consists of Mayor Eduardo Garcia, Mayor Pro Tem Steven Hernandez, Council member Jesse Villarreal, re-elected Council member Gilbert Ramirez and new council member Emmanuel Martinez. The City Treasurer continues to be Isabel Castillon.

After the swearing in, a Tree Lighting Ceremony was held with Mariachi’s and performances by the 21st Century Community Learning Center. The Mayor gave thanks to the “Starlight Christmas in Coachella” committee members, Andrea Carranza, Brenda Ayon, Cathy Alvarez, Dave Walton, Debbie DeRenard, Elsa Reyes, Gabe Papp, George Torres, Jackie Lopez, Liza Bliss, Luis Andrade, Rudy Gutierrez and Steve Salado.
