Por segundo mes consecutivo, en julio, bajó el número de inmigrantes procesados por las autoridades de inmigración de Estados Unidos a lo largo de la frontera sur.
De acuerdo con datos federales publicados el lunes, esto muestra que el nivel récord de inmigración registrado durante el año pasado se está estabilizando durante el verano.
El mes pasado, la Patrulla Fronteriza contabilizó 181,552 arrestos de inmigrantes que ingresaron ilegalmente a EE.UU., una reducción del 6 % desde junio y una caída de casi el 19 % desde mayo.
Datos de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza (CBP) indican que, en julio, otros 18,424 inmigrantes fueron procesados en los puertos de entrada fronterizos, entre los que se encuentran los solicitantes de asilo que la administración Biden está permitiendo ingresar al país por motivos humanitarios.
No obstante, aunque son datos alentadores, cifras históricas del gobierno indican que el número total de llegadas de inmigrantes en julio es el segundo más alto de ese mes.
Y los arribos de inmigrantes a la frontera siguen estando muy por encima de los promedios históricos y están por sobrepasar los 2 millones este año fiscal.
En lo referente a los inmigrantes arrestados por cruzar la frontera ilegalmente y los procesados en los puertos de entrada, la cifra ya rebasó por mucho a la establecida en 2021, pues el CBP ha procesado a inmigrantes más de 1,9 millones de veces en el año fiscal 2022.
Chris Magnus, comisionado de CBP, explicó que la caída en los arrestos de inmigrantes estaba ligada con los esfuerzos de la administración del presidente Joe Biden para combatir las operaciones de contrabando de personas y disuadir a los migrantes de viajar al norte a través de campañas de mensajes públicos, señala CBS.
“Esto marca el segundo mes consecutivo de disminución de encuentros a lo largo de la frontera suroeste”, señaló el funcionario en un comunicado.
“Si bien los números de encuentros siguen siendo altos, esta es una tendencia positiva y la primera caída de dos meses desde octubre de 2021”, añadió.

Regarding immigrants arrested for crossing the border illegally and those processed at ports of entry, the figure has already far exceeded that established in 2021, as CBP has processed immigrants more than 1.9 million times in the fiscal year 2022.
CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus explained that the drop in immigration arrests was tied to efforts by the administration of President Joe Biden to crack down on human smuggling operations and deter migrants from traveling north through campaigns of public messages, notes CBS.
“This marks the second consecutive month of decreased encounters along the southwest border,” the official said in a statement.
“While encounter numbers remain high, this is a positive trend and the first two-month drop since October 2021,” it added.
